We have studied many concepts this semester, so recalling just one that needs improvements is a bit difficult. After much thought, the concept that I would like to spend more time on, trying to understand more would be fallacies. There are so many fallacies and very little time. While some are prety straight forward others are very confusing and need further explination. I remember when we were studing the fallacies at one point I had to do a lot of additional research in order to really understand what they meant because the book was so vauge. I think if we could have spent a little more time on them that would have been very helpful. I hope that there are not too many fallacies on the final because then I will be in a lot of trouble.
Well I am sad to know that this is my last blog, I hope that everyone had a great semester and I wish everyone good luck on there finals:)

I strongly agree with your blog posting. I took felt the same exact way about the fallacies section in out text book. I felt that even though there were some fallacies that were easy to understand and get the concept behind them, there were definitely others that were really hard to grasp the concept on. I found that it was hard to fully grasp what each fallacy was used for and even how it was suppose to be used. I too found myself having to do additional research to figure out what certain fallacies were used for and how to use them. I found it quite hard to find additional helpful information on them as well.
ReplyDeleteI chose fallacies as my section that needed to be further explained and more time needed to be spent on them. i agree with you completely and its nice to know that I am not alone in thinking this! There are so many different types of fallacies and being able to identify each and every one of them takes lots of practice. Personally I don't know if I am at that level yet but I hope in the future if I keep up and study this section i will be someday. I too had to do some additional studying when it came to this section, especially if we were going to be tested on it. I am in shock that this is our last blog! I hope you have an amazing summer and I know you will do great on the final! Good Luck :)
ReplyDeleteYep, you're totally right. I couldn't think of a different concept to write about so I took a break for a couple days to think of something. Then, when I decided to not write about a concept in the book and just start writing out song lyrics, I thought of something to relate to it anyways so I ended up writing about a concept that related to the book. Also, you say you're sad to know that this is your last blog, but then I see a smiley face at the end of the sentence!!!
ReplyDeletethat freudian slip proves you're actually secretly happy you don't have to write any more blog entries because you're not Hard at Work as you say but actually lazy. Or maybe it's just me. Sorry for the ramble. It happens sometimes when I stop thinking before I type.
Man, I hella agree with your post on fallacies. There were so many of them and it got confusing because most of them seemed the same. I did so bad on the midterms when it came to fallacies because the fact that some of the definition's of the fallacies were almost identical with other fallacies, it's like which one is it?! I kind of wish there was a way to learn that concept easier, such as better examples then what is brought to the book for us to learn. I will be studying a lot on fallacies before the final, well good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you as well. The topic of fallacies was very hard to grasp. There were a ton of them and they were all very confusing. The whole section with the example of letters were confusing. With all the A's, B's, S's, P's, and etc I really did not know how to follow them. They were all very similar but supposedly they are different. The other sections like content fallacies was a little easier to grasp but there is still a lot of material to fully grasp. I also hope there is not that much about fallacies on the final because I will struggle if there are.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think learning about the different kinds of fallacies is another important part of this course. There were a lot to keep straight, and sometimes it was easy to mix them up. It is a lot of ground to cover, and I felt like we definitely covered that and a lot of other territory in this course. Overall it was a lot of material to learn about, but I’m glad I decided to take this course, because I feel like I really have a better understanding of the concepts of critical thinking and how to apply them to everyday situations in my life.
